About Andrea - The Sunday School Teacher
Welcome! I'm so glad you've stopped by. I can't wait to get to know you. Let me introduce myself...
My name is Andrea and I've been a Sunday School teacher for over 25 years. I have a Bachelor of Religion and Theology and a certificate in Volunteer Sector Management. Over the years I've run programs for hundreds of participants in a variety of not-for-profit settings but I've discovered that my heart has a beat that is distinctly connected to the small local church.
Most of my time as a Sunday School teacher has been as a volunteer juggling the demands of careers and parenting with church ministry. Now, I have the blessing of working part-time at a small church, where I continue to learn, grow, and cherish Sunday mornings spent with kids and their families.

Why did I start Diary of a Sunday School Teacher?
There are a few reasons:
-
I hope to jot down my own experiences, lessons taught and lessons learned so that I can remember them (and find them easier the next time I utilize them)
-
I hope to encourage, connect with and contribute to others who also find themselves hanging out with kids on a Sunday morning at church
-
I've had a handful of people over the years ask me, "Why don't you publish your Sunday School materials?" I suppose this is my first attempt.
-
I hope to share resources for others who have encountered similar challenges when they are on the hunt for curriculum. (Learn more: The Challenge To Do Better)
My approach to Sunday School...
You'll get a much better sense of my approach to Sunday School by reading the diary entries. But if you want a quick rundown, I think Sunday School should:

-
tell God's story in a way that captures the attention, imagination and hearts of children
-
provide safe spaces for all kids to wonder, explore, question, share and grow as owners of their own faith
-
be relationship focused - filled with the hearty welcome and love of God
-
strive for excellence in teaching and methodology
-
encourage intergenerational faith formation
-
be sustainable in the time, resources, budget and volunteer efforts required
-
be energetic, creative and FUN!
...it takes a lot of ingredients to make something incredible!
